The never ending secrets of the lighthouse our visitors discover!
Because many of our visitors out to the lighthouse are visiting for the first time they often see things we've never noticed.
The views from the Light Gallery at the very top are stunning but one of our passengers noticed a beautiful Victorian clenched fist handle tucked away on tiny door. Another saw the bell used to alert the early keepers that the rotation mechanism needed rewinding.
Yesterday someone asked what the sloping windows in the room above Grace Darling's bedroom were. It turns out this is the room where the early keepers made the wicks for light so these windows were used for ventilation against the sulphur fumes.
