Post Office House is an AA Four Star Gold privately owned and run bed and breakfast located in the centre of Belford. This prominent Grade II Listed Victorian building was formerly the village post office until 2014. The property was refurbished in 2016 and we offer guests elegant, relaxing and comfortable accommodation, with a `home-from-home' experience, together with our delicious breakfasts, made using quality, local produce.
We are perfectly located to visit the stunning coastline, historic castles and explore our wonderful countryside here in North Northumberland. Holy Island of Lindisfarne, Bamburgh, Farne Islands and the Cheviot Hills are a short drive or cycle away. We are also on the Northumberland Coastal Path, St Cuthbert's and St Oswald's Way, routes which are highly popular with walkers. There is off-street private parking for three cars.
Three en-suite rooms with showers; Berwick (ground floor double), Coquet (king double bed) and Longstone (twin) are all individually furnished to a high standard. Each is equipped with Smart televisions with Freeview channels, complimentary WiFi, Nespresso coffee machines and full hospitality trays with a wide selection of Ringtons teas. We have private off-road parking with spaces for three cars (one per room).
We offer homemade cake on arrival and a `tot' of Lindisfarne Dark Mead, for an aperitif or nightcap! Facilities include bathrobes, quality linen and large bath sheets, Scottish Fine Soap toiletries and two comfy chairs for extra relaxation. All rooms retain the original wooden sash windows and period features. The Berwick Room has the original wooden shutters, still in full working order and has an Eco mini-fridge. Coquet and Longstone have shared access to an Eco mini-fridge on the landing.
Our award-winning breakfasts include: Full Northumbrian including delicious `Bamburgh Banger' sausages, the famous Craster kipper and vegetarian/vegan options alongside our homemade preserves. In addition there is freshly prepared fruit, homemade muesli, cereals and toast. Dairy/gluten-free options are also available (by prior notice). Our dining room's focal point is the cosy, wood burning stove which is lit in the colder months and the vibrant post box fabric at the window! We endeavour to source as much local produce where possible. This not only provides our guests with a quality breakfast but also to keep food miles to a minimum and in turn, helping our local economy to thrive. We are very proud to be members of `Produced in Northumberland', a government scheme launched to highlight our region's excellent, independent food/drink producers. We have recently added Marlish Water and Coffee & Kin biodegradable coffee pods to our `support local' list.
Guests are welcome to use the secluded garden to chill out after a long walk, cycle or sightseeing and to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening sun. We are walker, cycle and motorcycle friendly with secure storage. There is a very good bus service (X15/X18) which connects to Alnwick, Berwick, Morpeth and Newcastle, plus the Northumberland Coastal Route, with bus stops only a few metres away from our door.
We regret we are unable accommodate wheelchairs/mobility scooters due to the historic fabric of the building. No pets allowed or children under the age of 15 years. We are sorry but no stag/hen/wedding bookings or divers.
